When I saw the movie Interstellar I must say I wasn’t expecting the direction and ending that the film took… at all. I walked into the theater hoping for an entertaining film that had some cool science and ideas in it, all the while taking place in space, which I love.

Also being a huge fan of Matthew McConaughey I would get to enjoy that bit as well. But then the interesting themes started to emerge and I was even more impressed. If you haven’t seen the movie Interstellar and you want to watch it without any spoilers, I would stop reading this post now so that you don’t ruin anything for yourself.

For those who don’t know, Interstellar is a film that follows humanity’s final efforts to find a new habitable place after the earth was seriously damaged by an environmental catastrophe. Matthew McConaughey plays a former NASA pilot-turned-corn-farmer who discovers coordinates to a top secret government project. After finding the hidden base, he’s brought in on the covert project whose goal is to send a crew through a recently discovered wormhole, in the hopes that humankind can find a new habitable planet in another galaxy.

There have been a number of theories about the meaning of the film’s ending, as it left many people scratching their heads. “Why did it take that turn?” “What does it mean?” “Did he die?”

Some have enjoyed the ending, while others were turned off by it. Either way, the conversations happening around this film are exciting to me, especially running a website that is all about consciousness, cool science, and new ways of looking at things – things are changing! People are becoming more interested in these types of ideas and consciousness-provoking content. I remember just a few years ago when you mentioned the word consciousness or dimension, people thought it was all just “woo-ey” talk, but now it’s so much more widely accepted and understood. I think this is promising given the shifts in perspectives that are taking place and the implications they could have on how we view our world and our way of living here.

Neil deGrasse Tyson offers an interesting explanation through his expertise in physics as to what the ending of Interstellar means and how it’s possible when you begin factoring in other dimensions. Simply imagine looking at your life as a timeline that has already happened and you are at a higher dimension able to look down at it.

You can jump in at any point you like and experience it, because from the space you exist in this other dimension time doesn’t apply to you in the same way it does to the physical reality we experience today.
